Earth Side, Round 2 Results
June 10, 2012
Earth Side, Round 2 concluded some epic battles, and the victors advance closer to the RaGARok round. This is ExecutiveOtaku, bringing you the results of this most recent round. Some big names in this round, and a few of the matches were quite close. So read on, mecha fans, and see if your favorites made it through.
Gurren Lagann vs Big O (67.86% vs 32.14%)
Ingram vs Zeta Gundam (37.38% vs 62.62%)
Shin Getter Robo vs Nirvash Type 0 (42.57% vs 57.43%)
VF-25 Messiah vs Mazinkaiser SKL (54.29% vs 45.71%)
BONUS ROUND: Android Exhibition Match
Hatsueno Alpha (23.33%) vs KOS-MOS (21.11%) vs Melphina (11.11%) vs R. Dorothy Wayneright (28.89%) vs Sammy (15.56%)
Fan favorite, the Gurren Lagann, secured a handy victory over the anime-noir charms of the Big O as it continues to clear a path through MidGAR and onward to challenge the champions of GARhalla. The Zeta Gundam also had a big win over the sole police mecha, the Ingram. The cursed Gundam is looking in even better form than last year, and may go far this time around. Elsewhere, the other two matches this week were much closer. The hopes of Getter fans were dashed as their champion couldn’t manage to edge out another win in round 2, falling to the surfboarding Nirvash in the Sai Mecha Arena. Showing new momentum this year, the VF-25 took down a major contender in the form of the Mazinkaiser SKL to advance to the next round. Last year the VF-25 was paired in Round 1 against the eventual champion, Eva UNIT 01, and was out before it had a chance. But this year it’s really getting the chance to shine, and I could see this one going far.
Meanwhile off the battlefield, Miss R. Dorothy Wayneright took home the Android prize as the most beloved of the contenders in a very close vote. Hatsueno Alpha’s charms certainly won over a large part of the audience, and KOS-MOS displayed both her martial prowess and that she indeed has a soul. Sammy and Melphina came in after the others, but still earned respectable votes from the Asimov and Anime Classics voter bases, respectively.
Stay tuned for Colonies Side Round 2 voting this week. And once that round is concluded, we’ll be running the Earth and Colonies Side rounds simultaneously, as we’re down to a smaller number of contestants now. Once that combined round is complete, MidGAR will have chosen its champions to challenge the gods of GARhalla in the RaGARok phase. RaGARok will be eight contestants, randomized into a new bracket, as chaos reigns and the mecha mayhem will shake the halls of the gods themselves! See you there, mecha fans! This is ExecutiveOtaku, signing off.
